NEWS FLASH

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has put into operation a solar plant that will provide it with electricity obtained from renewable sources. The new solar plant will produce approximately 1.130.000 kWh of green electricity annually, which is comparable to the yearly consumption of about 430 households. As a result, the airport’s CO2 emissions will be decreased by 900 tons per year. The solar plant is located near the airport complex, on the road towards Surčin, next to the new Tesla car park, and consists of nearly 3.000 photovoltaic panels spread over an area of 15.900 square metres that convert sunlight into electric energy. This initiative is part of operator VINCI Airports’ global efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. “Through sustainable operations, Belgrade Airport aims to reach VINCI Airports’ goal of zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Since 2018, we have been implementing a number of environmental projects such as a natural gas heating plant, solid waste processing plant and wastewater treatment plant. We will continue to operate in a sustainable manner and contribute to a healthier environment”, Belgrade Airport’s General Manager, Francois Berisot, said. In November 2020, Belgrade Airport joined the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program (ACA), receiving Level 1 certification, while the process for Level 2 is in progress.
