Emirates and United Partnership Unveiled
The Emirates and United Partnership came as a surprise for many travellers who only alluded to the announcement of the news from a series of Tweets from the airlines. Soon enough, the agreement was announced at a ceremonial event as Dulles International Airport, where both airlines’ CEOs were in attendance.
Ready for our big day today, @united?— Emirates Airline (@emirates) September 14, 2022The announcement was welcomed by many as another opportunity to bring the United States and United Arab Emirates closer together. From November, Emirates customers flying to Houston, San Francisco and Chicago will have the opportunity to connect on a United flight using a single ticket. The United flights offer a choice of nearly 200 cities across the Americas, an appealing choice for many to be able to travel far and wide from everything leisure to business.
The other American airports that Emirates services are Boston, Dallas, LA, Miami, JFK, Orlando, Seattle and Washington DC. These hubs have not been forgotten about, as the airlines will have an interline arrangement in place to ensure customers are getting the most of the partnership.
President of Emirates, Sir Tim Clark, sees the union of the airlines as an opportunity to bring the countries closer than ever.
“Two of the biggest, and best-known airlines in the world are joining hands to fly people better to more places, at a time when travel demand is rebounding with a vengeance. It’s a significant partnership that will unlock tremendous consumer benefit and bring the United Arab Emirates and the United States even closer. We welcome United’s return to Dubai next year, where our hub Dubai essentially becomes a gateway for United to reach Asia, Africa and the Middle East via the combined network of Emirates and flydubai. We look forward to developing our partnership with United for the long term.”

Alongside the announcement of the partnership was also the unveiling of a new service. United will launch a new direct flight between New York/Newark and Dubai starting in March 2023. Dubai, the home of Emirates, is a significant hub that will allow for passengers to connect to more than 100 cities on an Emirates flight or its sister airline, flydubai. Tickets are now on sale for the service.
CEO of United Airlines, Scott Kirby, says that the customer is at the heart of the partnership.
“This agreement unites two iconic, flag carrier airlines who share a common commitment to creating the best customer experience in the skies. United’s new flight to Dubai and our complementary networks will make global travel easier for millions of our customers, helping boost local economies and strengthen cultural ties. This is a proud moment for both United and Emirates employees, and I look forward to our journey together.”

Benefits from the aviation partnership
The partnership will allow for customers to have a smooth airport experience, something that has been unheard of in recent times. Passengers of both airlines will be able to have their luggage transfer completed easily alongside a quick check in process, as connecting flights will be booked on a single ticket.
Loyalty members across both airlines will also be rewarded. Emirates Skywards members will be able to earn miles when they travel on United flights, and United Mileage Plus members flying on the new New York/Newark to Dubai non-stop flight will be able to earn and redeem miles when connecting beyond on Emirates and flydubai.
Interested passengers should also keep up to date with the latest news from the airlines, as lounge access benefits and more specific loyalty program information is set to be announced by Emirates and United in the coming weeks.
Airlines are beginning to form strong partnerships that will improve consumer travel by offering more destinations, rewards and exclusive benefits. Just last week, Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways announced their partnership that was applauded by many as another opportunity for strategic travel.
