Sustainability was at the forefront of the planning process when it came to redesigning the new SkyTeam Sydney Lounge. The refurbished area can be described as fresh, lively and green, as it is paved with floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and an array of plants, bringing the outside in.

Sustainability at the forefront of SkyTeam’s Sydney Lounge

The SkyTeam Sydney Lounge has not missed any details when it comes to delivering a sustainable new space for travellers to enjoy. The lounge offers 149 seats to relax in, all made using GREENGUARD certified upholstery. The space also has movement sensor smart technology to save energy and the bathrooms have also been redesigned with water-saving shower heads and cisterns.

SkyTeam’s CEO/Managing Director Kristin Colvile is optimistic about the new lounge and how it is helping shape the future of travel.

“How better to welcome international travelers back to our Sydney Lounge than with a brand-new, high-quality experience that not only cares for them today but helps look after tomorrow’s travelers?

“It’s exciting to unveil a fresh look for SkyTeam Lounges that embodies our alliance’s commitment to greater sustainability on the ground and in the air.”

Sydney’s newest lounge area is already offering major changes compared to the last SkyTeam Lounge opening in Santiago de Chile, which instead focused on cultural heritage. Sustainability within the aviation space is rapidly gaining consumer interest, from developments in Sustainable Aviation Fuel to a growing pressure for corporate social responsibility. There will be no doubt that the new space will be an attractive and welcomed options by travellers everywhere.

What’s on the menu

Even what’s on the menu has not been forgotten about when it comes to sustainable choices. An à la carte menu offers locally sourced ingredients and fresh produce, including sustainably harvested fish. Plastic waste is also reduced by offering water dispensers and glassware for customers, with no plastic straws and stirrers in sight. Travellers will be able to watch their food being made by in-house chefs at the live-cooking station, or if time-poor, the self-service buffet is sure to have something to satisfy your hunger. And with a glass in hand, you will be offered a variety of Australian red, white and sparkling wines or spirits. Or you can simply opt for a barista coffee or soft drink instead.
