Travellers this holiday season are in for a treat as Alaska Airlines has partnered with Lyft for a new way for Mileage Plan members to earn extra miles.

The new partnership announcement between the airline and the transport company begins now and lasts until 31st December 2022.

Passengers with an Alaska Mileage plan account will earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on their everyday Lyft rides anywhere in the US and Canada. After the scheme has ended, travellers can continue to earn 1 mile for every $1 spent on a ride.

How does the scheme work?

To sign up for the scheme you must first link your mileage plan and Lyft accounts at AlaskaLyft.com

Once you have signed up for free, your accounts will be linked, and you will be ready to earn miles! You will earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on all Lyft rides in the US and Canada and the best thing is that there is no limit to the number of miles you can earn.

Users must make sure that the Alaska mileage plan is selected as the preferred travel partner in the rewards section in the Lyft app. All Lyft rides are eligible for earning miles – these include Lyft Standard, Wait & Save, Priority Pickup, Shared, Shared Saver, Preferred, Lyft XL, Lux, Lux Black and Lux Black XL rides.

In addition, there are also more ways for travellers to earn extra miles. Mileage plan members with an Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card earn an additional one mile for every $1 spent.

Whether you’re heading to the airport, heading to a concert or across town for a get-together this festive season, it doesn’t matter. You can earn miles on everyday Lyft rides.

“We always want our guests to have a terrific travel experience, even when they’re not flying with us. Our new partnership with Lyft makes sure our flyers are also cared for on the ground as they go places. Alaska and Lyft are both respected brands by millions of customers who turn to us as their preferred modes of transportation,” said Sangita Woerner, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Guest Experience at Alaska Airlines.

bout Alaska Airlines

The North American airline was founded in 1932 when Linious ‘Mac’ McGee and his partner Harvey Barnhill began advertising flights in the Anchorage Daily Times. There was one three-seat aircraft which flew between Anchorage and Bristol Bay. As McGee took over the business, naming it McGee airways, the fleet increased from one to seven. In 1934, McGee Airways merged with Star Air Service, creating the largest airline in Alaska with 22 aircraft.

In 1941 the airline changed its name to Alaska Airlines. Throughout World War Two, the airline faced hardship due to a shortage of pilots and equipment.

During the ‘jet age’ of the 1960s, the airline became the first commercial carrier in the world to fly the Lockheed Hercules aircraft.

From 1932 to now Alaska Airlines has been blazing a new path for travel. The airline recently launched a flight subscription service to passengers the first of its kind.
