NEWS FLASH

Sarajevo has felt the impact of Wizz Air’s decision to close its base in the city, with the airport seeing its passenger numbers decline in April compared to the same month last year. Sarajevo Airport welcomed 89.580 travellers during the month, representing a decrease of 5.4% on last year and down 0.3% on the pre-pandemic 2019. Over the first four months of the year, the airport processed 283.820 passengers, which is still up 4.4% on last year and up 7.4% on 2019. Wizz Air shut its base in Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital last November, resulting in the termination of a dozen routes. The airport has held a tender to select a replacement for the budget carrier by offering subsidies. One airline applied and the airport has claimed to have reached an agreement with the carrier, however, so far, no further details have been made public.
