The European Commission has approved the Slovenian government’s plan to subsidise certain air routes from the country, most of which are currently unserved. Ten destinations are being prioritised with 16.8 million euros having been made available over the next three years. The state will initially provide funds for flights from one of three of Slovenia’s commercial airports to Vienna, Copenhagen, Athens, Madrid, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Charleroi, Skopje, Prague and Berlin. If any funds remain available after the call, they will be made available in subsidies to carriers flying to Rome, Stockholm, Oslo, Barcelona, Lisbon, Pristina and Paris. The government has said it will launch tender procedures as soon as possible in order to select the operating carriers. Once the public call is issued, it will be open for thirty days.
