Delta will open its 1st Sky Club in Charlotte

Delta Air Lines is growing in enemy territory.

The carrier confirmed this week that it would open a brand-new Sky Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

Following months of speculation and airport construction renderings with signs for a Sky Club, the airline finally confirmed the plans in a cagey statement to The Charlotte Ledger.

“Delta Sky Club is looking forward to opening its first-ever location in Charlotte next year. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months,” a carrier spokesperson shared with TPG.

Though the airline confirms that a club is in the works for CLT, it stopped short of teasing any of the upcoming amenities, square footage or even the location.

That said, the rendering depicts a location in the new Concourse A expansion that’s slated to open next fall. This expansion will add 10 gates at CLT, boosting the airport’s capacity even further.

It wasn’t clear if Delta plans to open the club in tandem with the concourse opening or if the airline will need time to finish the construction.

Of course, TPG will be there to report on all the latest developments, but Delta’s confirmation is welcome news for anyone passing through Charlotte.

For one, the new Sky Club should help alleviate some of the overcrowding at the airport’s American Express Centurion Lounge, which, at 13,000 square feet, is on the smaller side.

Many travelers passing through the Centurion Lounge will also have access to the Sky Club (when traveling with Delta), so these flyers might start using the Delta outpost instead of the Amex one.

Furthermore, it’ll become the airport’s first Sky Club and first airline lounge not affiliated with American Airlines.

American operates one of its largest hubs in Charlotte, and the airline has just two clubs there. Though there’ve been rumors of American replacing its main Charlotte lounge with one twice the size, the carrier hasn’t confirmed the plans other than saying it is “working” with the airport on redevelopment plans.

While the Sky Club may not directly help alleviate overcrowding at the Admirals Club, it may give some locals and visitors a reason to travel with Delta over American.

In addition to the Admirals Clubs, Centurion Lounge and Sky Club, CLT is also home to an outpost of The Club and a Minute Suites.

For Delta, Charlotte will become just one of its latest Sky Club openings. The carrier has been busy building a network of airport lounges that travelers want to visit.

From bespoke design to thoughtful amenities to delicious food and drinks, the Sky Club network is the best airline-operated membership club in the country.

And with the addition of Charlotte, it’s only getting better.
