Air Montenegro will post a net profit of two million euros for 2023 and anticipates a successful year ahead, which will see the carrier launch four new routes, with plans to grow its passenger numbers by some 35%. Speaking to the “MINA” news agency, Air Montenegro’s CEO, Mark Anžur, said, “The airline will have a net profit of two million euros, or four million euros before tax, which we believe is an achievement, considering the company is just three years old and has consolidated both financially and organisationally. So, I think we are on the right path. We carried 480.000 passengers in 2023, which is 30% above the previous year. The plan for 2024 is approximately 650.000 passengers. Therefore, the growth will be considerable, and we are happy with that”. During the ongoing winter season, Air Montenegro launched a new service between Podgorica and Rome, which Mr Anžur said the airline is so far “very happy with”. During the 2024 summer season, it will introduce seasonal operations from Podgorica to Munich and Ostrava, as well as from Tivat to Baku and Izmir. It will also grow operations on the Tivat - Belgrade route by adding a fourth daily flight on select days between the two cities over the peak of the summer season for a total of 24 weekly rotations. “In 2024 we plan to have five aircraft in service. We will have four Embraers and one Airbus A320 for additional capacity”, Mr Anžur noted. As a result, Air Montenegro will have one additional aircraft compared to last summer, with the A320 to be wet-leased this year from Croatia’s Trade Air. Mr Anžur noted that geopolitics, as well as significant competition from Turkish carriers are presenting themselves as a challenge. “We had some operational issues, notably with slots at Tel Aviv, the war in Israel, as well as, somewhat unexpectedly, the additional capacity by Turkish carriers on our service to Istanbul, which created additional competition and we believe that there is already too much capacity on this route now”. He added, “It is important for us not only to focus on profitability but also take into account Montenegro’s interests and deliver year-round connectivity, which includes the winter months as well, so we can provide the citizens of Montenegro service which would otherwise not be there”.
