Cirium has released its October 2022 performance report, ranking airports and carriers around the world.

The company monitors 70 million itineraries annually, analyzes 300 billion USD worth of airline tickets, values 5.3 trillion USD worth of aircraft assets, distributes data and information on 7 million flight events weekly, and covers 97% of all commercial flights worldwide.

On-Time Performance Report

The primary study occurs annually – The Cirium On-Time Performance Report – and critical monthly updates occur regularly to check the industry’s pulse.

The performance of an airport is measured by the number of flights that depart on time. An aircraft arriving at the gate within 15 minutes of its estimated arrival time is considered on-time performance. Cirium’s on-time performance reporting for airlines and airports is the industry’s longest-running analysis, dating back over 13 years.

There are three types of airlines: global, major (by region), and low-cost carriers. Unlike low-cost airlines, each category has a mainline and network operations winner. Airport rankings are determined globally and by size, with large, medium, and small airports being the most common.

It is worth noting that Cirium decided not to include Russian airlines and airports in its Monthly On-Time Performance Reports, given information from the region may be delayed due to the conflict.

The report ranks the top-performing mainline and network airlines in Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa in October 2022, and reviews low-cost carrier performance.

The Most On-time Global Airline – Mainline

ANA, Japan Airlines, and Azul have been competing for the top spot in the Global Mainline category all year. With Japan’s air traffic increasing, ANA’s ability to maintain first place this month demonstrates the airline’s ability to manage its operations very well. With an on-time performance (OTP) of 90.13%, ANA replaces JAL, ranked fourth this month. United Airlines (UA) debuts in the top 5 this year at number 5 with an OTP of 87.31%.
