Alaska Airlines have collaborated with an American non-profit organisation Spokane and provided unprivileged children with a fantasy flight to the North Pole.

The Alaska Airlines flight 1225 departed from Spokane International airport on the 10th of December 2022 with 60 children on board. The Spokane fantasy flight journey took 40 minutes from the airport to the ‘North Pole.’ Before entering the aircraft, the flight crew met the children dressed up as Elves and Santa Clauses to create a festive atmosphere.

What is the Spokane Fantasy Flight project?
The project has been running for 25 years, providing less fortunate children with the opportunity to experience a festive-filled Christmas. As a charity organisation, their main aim is to give every child an evening where they can share Santa’s undivided attention.
Since 1997, over 500 community volunteers, sponsors and don Santa’s come together annually to provide an estimate of 65 children from Spokane and the Coeur d’Alene region a trip of a lifetime to the ‘North Pole.’
Upon arrival at the ‘north pole,’ each child receives unique Christmas-themed clothing and multiple gifts from ‘Santa.’
The selected children are nominated via the region’s social agencies, as the organisation cannot compare and determine each child’s needs. All of the children assigned through this process are between the age of 4 to 10 years.

Spokane Fantasy Flight is not the only aviation scheme set up to ‘provide deserving children with life-changing trips. A UK-based charity organisation called Dreamflight is also well known for providing children who suffer from complex illnesses with the opportunity to visit Walt Disney Orlando for ten days. Over 190 children are taken to the location each trip via a privately hired aircraft.
The UK-based organisation’s next flight will be taking place in the coming month.
